According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted military sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island over the weekend. The operation came shortly after Iran allegedly shot down a US MQ-1 surveillance drone that Washington claimed was flying in international airspace.
US fighter jets reportedly destroyed multiple Iranian military assets, including air defence systems, a drone ground control station, and two attack drones that CENTCOM said posed a threat to shipping and military operations in regional waters.
American officials stated that the operation was measured and defensive in nature, adding that no US personnel were injured during the mission.
Iran Claims US Drone Violated Its Airspace
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that its air defence forces had shot down a US MQ-1 drone early Sunday morning.
According to Iranian media reports, the drone was detected after allegedly entering Iranian airspace and was destroyed using advanced missile systems. Iranian authorities accused the aircraft of conducting hostile surveillance operations and defended the action as necessary to protect national sovereignty.
The incident highlights the ongoing mistrust between Tehran and Washington despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
US Warns of Further Military Action
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that military operations could resume if future negotiations with Iran fail to satisfy American security requirements.
He stated that US forces remain fully prepared to respond to any threats against American personnel, allies, or strategic interests in the region.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has reportedly returned a proposed agreement with Iran for further revisions, raising uncertainty over the future of diplomatic talks.
UAE Condemns Israeli Actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Separately, the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the entry of Israeli settlers into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under police protection.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the raising of the Israeli flag at the holy site, calling it a provocation and an unacceptable act of extremism.
In its official statement, the ministry emphasized the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and ensure the protection of all religious sites.
The UAE also reaffirmed support for Jordan and its custodial role in managing Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem. Officials urged Israeli authorities to halt actions that could escalate regional tensions and warned against violations of international agreements.
Middle East Remains on Edge
The latest military exchanges between the United States and Iran, combined with growing tensions surrounding Jerusalem's holy sites, have raised concerns about regional stability. Analysts warn that any further escalation could threaten ongoing ceasefire efforts and complicate diplomatic negotiations already underway.
