Let's talk about the FIFA Men's Football World Cup. The tournament begins in 3 days. The first kickoff is on the 11th of June. And this time we have three hosts. Canada,
Mexico, and the United States. While the first whistle is just around the corner, the tournament is already mired in controversies. And surprisingly, the Western media is silent. When Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup, Western media had hundreds of obituaries on human rights. When रूस
hosted the 2018 World Cup, international media was rife with op-eds on LGBTQ+ rights. Similarly, when South Africa hosted the 2010 World Cup, we were told to wear bulletproof vests to matches. The script has always been the same. If it's a non-Western country, pick your poison and run the story. The non-Western nation could be too unsafe, too backward, too unstable, or all three at once. But what happens when a country like the United States becomes unsafe? Are the same fingers pointed at the West?
Apparently not. So, let me tell you what the Western media will not. Just 48 hours ago, that is on the 6th of June, there were two major shootings in Kansas City. Where exactly? The first one was on the Troost Avenue where nine adults were seriously injured. The second incident was ऑन
Westport Road where two adults were shot dead. And listen to this. Both the shooting incidents took place just a few blocks away from FIFA's World Cup Village. This is where teams from England, Argentina, the
Netherlands, and Algeria are staying and practicing. Just a day before the shootings, Argentina's star, Lionel Messi, was seen at the World Cup Village. The first shooting, the one at the Troost Avenue, is where the English and Dutch football teams will stay. Luckily, the English team was in Miami while the Dutch were in New York. But just look at the state of affairs in the United States.
The self-proclaimed beacon of civilization, football teams haven't even unpacked their bags yet, and they're getting a textbook lesson in gun culture. Welcome to the land of the free and the home of the stray bullet. And the shootings in Kansas City were not isolated incidents. In fact, the American welcome mat is looking incredibly bloody this summer. Because the day before the Kansas City shootings, chaos struck New York. On the 5th of June, there was a mass stabbing at Penn Station, one of the busiest transit hubs marked for the World Cup.
Six people were wounded in the incident. I am just getting started with my list. On the 4th of June, an outdoor sporting event at New York's Madison Square Garden went out of control.
At least 26 people were arrested for rowdy behavior. FIFA wanted a festival. America is giving them a survival simulation. Look at the trajectory of the country. There were 400 mass shootings last year. There have already been 177 this year.
The FBI reported more than 11,000 instances of hate crime against minorities. Crimes targeting Jews, Indians, and Latin communities are at an all-time high. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the so-called leader of the free world. The United States likes to lecture others on human rights and safety of minorities, but at home, it can't even keep its own people safe. How can the United States guarantee the safety of millions of international travelers who will fly in to support their teams?
Here's the truth. You can secure a stadium or a hotel, but you cannot fix a broken society. For decades, Washington lectured the world. Western media told the global south, "You aren't civilized enough." But as the world arrives on American shores, it looks like the biggest threat to the World Cup isn't international fans, but the host itself. >> [म्यूजिक
